Eugene Opera: The Magic Flute

Mozart's beloved masterpiece tells the journey of the young prince Tamino, recruited by the Queen of the Night to rescue her daughter Pamina from the clutches of the (supposedly) wicked Sarastro. As Tamino braves many trials to find the truth, accompanied in his travels by the strange and comical Papageno, he finds out that nothing in his world is as it was first presented.
The Magic Flute is sung in German with English dialogue. Nicholas Carthy, returning from his critical triumph in The Pirates of Penzance, conducts an international cast of exciting young singers. The music is a charming mixture of joy and solemnity which combines singing and spoken dialogue in a way that delights both connoisseurs and first-time operagoers of all ages.
